Grade 5/6 Leadership Day - Written by Mitchell, Charlotte, Eadie & Dempsey
Tuesday 28th February was the Grade 5/6 Leadership Day for 2017. We started off together as a 5/ 6 level and did prayer together as we do in the mornings then we went back to our class and did an activity with our teachers. In 5/M's class we learnt about how everyone has a role to play in our everyday lives, in 5/C's class we continued to make our hot air balloons with our caption “Rising to the Challenge”. In 5/W's grade we watched videos on leadership and teamwork and in 5/6TH's we took notes on teamwork skills after viewing inspiring short clips. After recess the Grade 5/6’s and teachers all gathered together to decide our captains. The day was amazing, filled with thrills of excitement and a lot of nervousness. The speeches were all spectacularly thought out and they made the decision very difficult. They were all written from the heart and it seemed almost impossible to pick the two people to vote for. Listening to the Speeches:
All of the year sixes had awesome speeches that came from their hearts. I know that for all the grade 5’s and 6’s choosing between all of the nominees was such a hard choice to make. Would you choose a friend, a good leader or a person with a great speech? These were all the questions running through our heads. I can’t explain how nerve wrecking it was to be standing in front of Mr Falls, the teachers and almost 100 students. I decided to use my talent (as a comedian) to help my anxiety for my speech. It made me feel like I knew what I was doing, and it helped me to become school captain, so win-win! All of the students who had the courage to try out for school captain didn’t complain at all when they didn’t make it. In fact, everyone was extremely supportive to one another and that is what I love about this faithful school. After the speeches, everyone was left in suspense and everyone got a free hotdog. I have never been in a lunch line so long. And at the first ring of the bell, all the grade 6’s mouths fell wide open with excitement. After a quick icy-pole break, we were all ready to find out who the captains were. After we had a quick sing along with Mr Falls, the votes were ready… Leadership Day was so much fun for everyone and it was a day that many students and teachers will not forget. So many good things will happen throughout the year. And we can promise it will be one you won’t forget. Sincerely Written by Your captains.
