Dear Parents, students and staff:
Community Prayer: Every Thursday we have a chance to pray as a community and I thank the students from year 5M and Mrs McKenzie for leading us today. The focus today was to live in the moment, move on from the past and the future will look after itself with the help of God and those around us. I regard this activity as a highlight every week as the students and staff always work well together which indicates preparation and commitment to our faith.
Junior Master Chef: Well done to all involved in the junior master chef competition at Sacred Heart College. The winning team received a cheque for $250:00 from the Rodilesa Plant Supplies in Kyneton.
Closure Day/Long Weekend: Tomorrow the staff will be involved in professional development around a program called Discovery Learning which is being implemented in year prep at the moment.
The Discovery-based inquiry approach values the prior knowledge, interests and experiences that young children bring with them to school, as well as building new experiences as a springboard for extending children’s curiosity and scaffolding further learning. Discovery-based inquiry is an approach to learning underpinned by principles, not a program. Schools implement the approach to suit the characteristics of their students and setting, and so it can look different in each school. What is constant, however, is the core structure of the approach: student-initiated inquiry (Discovery), teacher-initiated inquiry (inquiry investigations), the development of learner skills and dispositions, and the interweaving of literacy and numeracy in authentic and purposeful ways.
2019 Enrolments: Enrolments for 2019-year prep are due by tomorrow. Please let us know if you are intending to enrol your child, as we would like to prepare for the transition program later this year.
Confirmation reflection day: Yesterday, the year 6 students from both the Parish schools spent the day at the Community hall in Bulla reflecting on the Sacrament of Confirmation and the gifts they will use to help our world grow. Paul Spence was the facilitator who shared with the students his experiences in Africa. This gave everybody an appreciation of the tremendous opportunities we have in Australia. Bishop Terry Curtin spoke to the students about the gifts of the Holy Spirit and which Saint the children have chosen. Thanks to Mrs Dwyer and Mrs McCann for planning the day. We look forward to the ceremonies in the coming weeks.
Carpark Procedures/safety: The only place to drop off your child is on the outside of the asphalt area near the basketball courts. The rest of the areas are for you to park and supervise your child’s arrival at school. The disabled parking is for those who have the appropriate sticker. I recognise that we have new families to the school so if you are unsure please call in and ask.
LIFE: Learning Innovation Fun Environment: Many playground games have been purchased via the LIFE committee in consultation with the Student Representative Council.
Western Ranges Division Cross Country: Congratulations to Holly Bills (6TH), Maddie Douglas ( 3R), Ben Crech (6CP) and Jacob Floreani (6 TH) for competeing on the 30th of May at Werribee Park. Ben and Jacob will now compete at the regional cross country event and we wish them all the best.
District Netball: Well done to all the students who competed at the District Netball competition last Friday and thank you to coaches Angela Lilford, Mrs Thomas and Mrs McKenzie. The students are to be congratulated for playing with enthusiasm and in a great spirit.
Condolences to the Gatt family on the passing of Wayne’s father and to Jill Canon on the passing of her father.
