Dear Parents, Students and Staff, Prep Excursion: The year prep students went on an excursion on the 20th April to visit the Cross up on Macedon Macedon and then went to St Brigid’s church. Their Inquiry unit is about the local community. Fr Vinoth spoke to the students about his role as Parish Priest and the students will again visit Gisborne to look at shops and the jobs that people have in Gisborne. Thank you to teachers Caitlyn, Sam and the parents. Salesian College Sunbury : This week we welcomed back former student Max Den Dryver who has completed a work experience placement at Holy Cross. It’s great that former students choose Holy Cross as it reflects our positive standing in the community. Sian Leighton: Welcome also to Sian who is training to become a qualified Primary School teacher who is studying at Swinburne University. She is completing her placement in Year 6B will Lisa Peake. Review 2021: The Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic schools limited has appointed Mike Rowland as the external reviewer for the operations of Holy Cross Primary School. On Thursday 22nd he confirmed that we are compliant in regards to the legislation from the Victorian Registration Qualification Authority. This Thursday, Mike reviewed the areas of Leadership and Management, School Community and Religious Education and this included conversations with staff and parents. He will look at the areas of Student Well Being and Learning and Teaching next Thursday along with having discussions with staff and parents. Mike will complete a report which will be presented in June. Luke Wenczel: Welcome back to Mr Wenczel who has returned to the year 6 classroom 3 days a week with Miss Camilleri teaching on the Thursday and Friday. First Aid: On the first day of the term the staff completed training in the areas of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Anaphylaxis. During the training we were showed how to use a Defibrillator and after talking to the PFA we will be purchasing a defibrillator for Holy Cross. PFA: The Parents and Friends Association meet online on Wednesday and they have agreed to purchase a Defibrillator and 2 flag poles so we can raise the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island flag. The PFA raised over $2000.00 with the Easter raffle thanks to support from you. Well done to the committee. The PFA is also going to fund a Mother’s day morning BBQ on the 7th of May starting at 7:00 am. A message went home this morning via Operoo asking mums to indicate if they are attending along with their children. The Mother’s day stall will be held on Thursday 6th May where students will be able to purchase a present for mums and grandmothers. Cross Country: Congratulations to all the students who competed in the district cross country at Dixon Field on the 23rd of April. Good luck to the students who will represent our district at the regional level. Thanks to Miss Camilleri, staff and parents. ANZAC Day: Thank you to the School Captains and other students and families, who attended the ANZAC commemorative service at Gisborne last weekend along with Kellie McDonald.
